Last month, MongoDB unvelied a new “serverless” option for its https://www.mongodb.com/cloud/atlas/?utm_content=inline-mention database service. The company claims that Atlas Serverless, now in general availability, can support a wide range of application requirements “with little to no initial configuration and ongoing capacity management.”

Rather than modeling off of other serverless offerings, MongoDB went back to what was currently working — their dedicated clusters.

The MongoDB team are confident in the current release and recommend it for clients should they be seeking a serverless option.

Over time, Shum explains that MongoDB would like customers to think of serverless more of a consumption model than a concept.
