Canonical, Ubuntu Linux‘s parent company, claims to be the most popular operating system on private and public clouds. And, as we all know, Amazon Web Services, with 40.8% of the public cloud market, according to Gartner, has the lion’s share of the public cloud.

Because FIPS 140-2, for those of you who aren’t big on security or haven’t chased after government contracts, is a National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) standard for software and hardware cryptographic modules.

This certification is built both on Canonical’s track record in designing Ubuntu for high security and regulated workloads and for passing the certification tests.

The Ubuntu Pro and Ubuntu Advantage packages are validated on common CPU types and are also available for use on the public cloud with Ubuntu Pro FIPS.
