Mete Atamel - Senior Developer Advocate, Google

Serverless Containers with Knative and Cloud Run

When you build an app, you typically need to choose agility with serverless or flexibility with containers, but not both. But why does it have to be that way? Wouldn’t it be nice to have the best of both worlds?

In this talk, we’ll explore the open source project Knative and its managed version Cloud Run. Through a series of demos, we’ll see how these projects enable you to deploy and manage containers in a serverless way on wherever you want, on-prem or in the cloud.

As a long-time Java and C# developer, Mete likes to compare the two ecosystems. Prior to Google, he worked at Microsoft, Skype, Adobe, EMC, and Nokia building apps and services on various web, mobile and cloud platforms.

Oliver Crawford - Software Engineer, Skyscanner

Security Automation and DevSecOps at Scale

At Skyscanner. engineers perform thousands of deployments a day, hundreds of cloud infrastructure changes, across many microservices and microsites. In this talk, Oliver will cover various practices that they have been experimenting with to build and scale the security team's processes and ensure SDLC (Security Development Lifecycle) security coverage in a fast-paced environment.

From scaling up to scaling out (chapters/champions, tribe clinics etc.) along with creating a continuous improvement ecosystem that focuses on data-driven automation, Skyscanner has managed to achieve exponential improvements. Oliver will show how this data is contextualised to provide feedback to engineering teams, the tools they have integrated or built into the deployment pipeline, and how they have attempted to include security visibility at every layer of a service.
