In Adam's experience build scripts are often an ugly mix of make files, bash scripts, groovy code, and who knows what else. Adam will share his personal experience of moving to use the open-source earthfile format to improve this mess and walk through migrating an example project.

"Introduction to Pulumi, a hidden gem of infrastructure orchestration"

Synopsis:
Nowadays we're spoiled with the variety of orchestration tools available to us, from Ansible to Terraform or CloudFormation. But perhaps there is something better? After using Pulumi for the past couple of months, here's the good, the bad and why you should consider using it.

Bio:
17 years ago his family held an intervention because he was "using Linux too much". It failed. Considering his main system was Gentoo running on PowerPC, they might have had a valid point, though.

"ChatOps When It Matters"

Synopsis:
Incident response is one of the key components to running a successful DevOps organization, but only when all the parts work together. ChatOps has often been seen as an important part to Incident Response, but can be much maligned when not used properly. In this talk, we will take a look at how to use your ChatOps tooling to work with your team on Incident Response, how to create an Incident Response Playbook and why that is key to streamlining team activities during an incident, and how integrations can be work with your ChatOps setup to help bring the necessary people together to respond.

PJ is the Senior Developer Advocate at Mattermost and a board member of Open Sourcing Mental Illness (OSMIhelp.org). He is an organizer of DevOps Days Buffalo, CodeDaze, and ElixirDaze. Additionally, PJ is a developer, writer, speaker, and musician. He is known to travel the world speaking about programming and the way people think and interact. He is also known for wearing hats.
