DevOps Vancouver Meetup: November 2021

At the DevOps Vancouver Meetup on November 23, don’t miss the chance to hear from Datadog’s Tech Evangelist Ryan MacLean, who will share insights, provide a demo, and give away Datadog T-shirts! Here’s more about the evening’s line-up:

How you respond to production outages can affect both team morale and customer satisfaction. Further, informal communication across monitoring environments while debugging an outage can be a source of stress - the last thing you need.

Uptime alone is a poor measure of a system’s reliability. Agile development’s fail-fast approach, coupled with dynamic infrastructure and distributed applications requires us to have a more nuanced understanding of reliability than mere availability. Our app ecosystems’ expanding complexity means we require tightly-coupled tools to observe them properly. The right tooling will help you to track down the causes of problems, or even prevent them proactively.

Different components pose different observability needs. It is important to be able to correlate different data types to make sense of things - quickly and accurately.

At the Meetup we’ll discuss a framework for considering the information you need and show ways of abstracting the data points to make it more easily digestible. Finally, armed with this information, you’ll be able to share insights with team members to make decisions in a timely manner.

Ryan MacLean is a Tech Evangelist with Datadog. He brings 20 years of industry experience to this role, recently as a Senior Operations Engineer at Samsung, where he worked on products such as Samsung Pay and SmartThings. In his spare time, he enjoys building mechanical keyboards, taking pictures, and pretending to hike while taking pictures.
