Talk - An agile thinking tool for building a DevOps culture
Speaker: Lisa Crispin

When Brian Marick created the agile testing quadrants model back in 2003, the terms “continuous delivery” and “DevOps” had yet to be coined. Nevertheless, agile teams embraced continuous integration and worked towards having at least one passing build per day, producing an artifact that was potentially production-quality. The quadrants are a thinking tool that helps teams discuss, plan and execute technology- and business-facing testing activities to guide development and evaluate their product. Using the quadrants model helped teams work together to nurture a quality-focused DevOps style culture.
Today, continuous delivery is still a far-off dream for many teams. We have a wider range of tools and infrastructure to manage. For example, building quality into distributed systems in the cloud requires additional approaches that weren’t important 10 or 20 years ago. There’s no shortage of technology or tools to enable continuous integration, and, learning the skills to take advantage of that technology takes time. In this session, we’ll explore how teams moving towards continuous delivery can apply the agile testing quadrants to help build quality into software products in our continuous world.
This will be an interactive session, with opportunity for small group discussions and Q&A.
Learning takeaways:
-A quick overview of DevOps terminology to get us all on the same page
-How the quadrants have evolved along with modern software development
-Using the quadrants to fit testing activities into continuous delivery
-Applying the quadrants to plan a transformation to a DevOps culture
