Session Abstract:
Compliance as Code is the backbone driving our IT systems and services. At the same time, competitive pressures are increasing with the advent of game-changing new technologies and customer expectations for digital services. In this session, Lead Cloud Automation Engineer, of H&R Block and Galen Emery, Lead Security and Compliance Architect at Chef Software will discuss how enterprises can deliver new products and services at high velocity while still maintaining compliance, along with providing a unique real-world approach to compliance as code. The management of all business services, applications and infrastructure exists in feedback loops that require constant optimization around cost, availability, performance, security and usage. This rapid acceleration can place IT teams in a reactive, “fire drill” mode that fosters mistakes, makes it hard to drive standardization and best practices, and detracts from the overall success of the business. In this highly decentralized world, manual compliance is no longer sufficient; organizations must find automated ways to maintain compliance without sacrificing agility. Making compliance an integral part of the deployment process is possible when compliance is expressed as code. Just as the configuration of systems have shifted toward infrastructure as code, you can manage compliance using a programmatic language. This lets users define compliance requirements in a human- and machine-readable language. Once you’ve codified your requirements, you can run them as automated tests that audit your systems. Attendees can expect to learn how to deliver consistent, efficient and highly repeating business outcomes at the lowest possible cost, with the maximum availability and security, while also allowing users to expand into new and higher value-add roles across businesses.
